Tour The Strand
We love to show off The Strand! Tours are complimentary, but must be scheduled in advance. Availability varies based on previously scheduled events and holidays.
A little bit about our tours:
- Tours typically last about 45 minutes to 1 hour
- Tours cover multiple floors. There is an elevator available for those who need it, but it does not provide access to all parts of the tour.
- Topics (content will vary based on age level and interest):
- Theatre Etiquette
- Theatre Operations (what goes into what we do here)
- Theatre Jobs and Roles (it’s more than just the performers!)
- Tour of Building including historical points, technical aspects, artistic and architectural aspects of the building, vocabulary of the theatre, fun facts and stories.
Regarding the Historical Topics:
Part of the historical discussion of the theatre includes topics of race, as the theatre was built when segregation was the mandate. Although it is an uncomfortable part of our history, we believe that to fully understand the context of where we are, we have to understand where we’ve been. We aim to handle these topics in a way that is age appropriate while respecting the lived experience and historical truth of those who were affected by these policies. Please let us know in advance if this will be a problem for your group.
