The Strand Theatre's 2025 Centennial
Share your memories...
As The Strand swiftly approaches her centennial, we cannot help but turn our gaze backward, back to her grand opening in 1925 with The Chocolate Soldier, back to the glorious stage-stomping Vaudeville, back to the magical movie premiers, even back to her infamous closing in 1976. But like a phoenix of the south, The Strand rose from ruinous ashes on wings feathered by community leaders who shared a common dream of magic and light. We are proud to say that that dream is now reality. Since her grand re-opening in 1984, The Strand has graciously collected new memories of theatre, of Broadway, of world-class musicians, even of tiny dancers yet to grace the world in their prime. We are truly grateful to have experienced art, culture, and community within walls that have stood so many tests of time, and we wish we could remember it all.
In celebration of The Strand’s 2025 centennial, we kindly ask that you share with us your memories of this southern gem. What moments of joy, imagination, or spectacle stick with you even now? Which musicals, concerts, or performances have left an emotional watermark on you? We treasure your memories of The Strand as equally as our own, so we look forward to collecting yours and ours together in pursuit of a celebration that The Strand deserves.
